Embracing Change to Reignite Your Career

Leaders, It’s Time for a Change- and for You to Shine: Here’s How

You’ve climbed the corporate ‘ladder.’ You’ve gained the knowledge, the expertise, and the influence. You are now looking for some sort of change.

You might be thinking:

What can I do with all of this knowledge and passion to impact more people? To make real change? How can I align what I do with who I am? Is there something more?

Imagine that your career isn’t a ladder after all.  Your path may involve a promotion, side stepping or a change in direction.  Stay curious: What path do I want my career, my life to take next?

Embracing the Change

Leaders are currently in a period of transition- many tired after an arduous few years of doing all they could to keep their organisations and their teams afloat. There’s never been a more perfect time to come up for air.

When you take a step back and breathe  you can welcome the opportunity to choose what comes next for you, for your team, for your company. You can begin to develop new ideas, fresh approaches, and a clear mindset for what you want your future to be.

It can be so difficult to stay focused and motivated when you feel like you’re steering a ship in the middle of a storm, or climbing a ladder that reaches endlessly into the sky.

Pause and ask yourself: What is the right next step for me?  It doesn’t have to be a significant change, perhaps just a shift.

More Impact, More Influence, More Purpose

If your answer to the question above remains, “I haven’t a clue,” you’re not  alone. It can be a question that creates a feeling of  unease, but it can also be a question that’s full of excitement and possibility.

Here you are, at the point in your career when you have more value and wisdom to share than ever before.

Choosing your next move may be as simple as discovering a way to tap into those years of experience to level up your leadership from the inside out, motivating and inspiring your team along the way.

It might also be as complex as expanding your team, launching a new business, or shifting your current role.

(Not) Finding your Purpose

Purpose isn’t necessarily something you need to find.

Contrary to what some people believe, purpose is something we can choose to create, not necessarily something you are born with.  We have the ultimate power to control it and what’s more, it can change over time.

While we may incorporate work into our lives that’s in alignment with our purpose, developing our skills around who we are in our work and how we show up as the best leader we can, the work itself is the means, not the end.

By letting go of the idea that you need to “find” your purpose allows you to embrace your power in the moment. And that power is your ability to choose.

Challenge the Imposter, the negative chatter

To nip imposter syndrome in the bud, one strategy I recommend is asking others what they see as your strengths.

This gets you out of your head and out of the doubts that The Imposter within us is so fond of. It may also help you process your feelings and distance yourself from any judgment you have. Acknowledging your emotional state can be a powerful way to quieten your Imposter.

We often are our harshest critics, so watching people light up when they talk about us can be a great boon to our confidence.

Step into your Confidence, Strengths, and Superpowers

After considering your goals and acknowledging your strengths and superpowers, you may be ready to go for that promotion or reignite your career in some way.

How can you confidently move in the right direction? How do you know which direction is the right direction?  Remembering the fact that it doesn’t always have to be ‘up’.

The answer is in the questions that you ask yourself.

 ○        How can I make more of an impact?

 ○        What is my purpose – my direction?

 ○        Is it time to shift my focus?

 ○        'Perhaps you need to gain new and more refined skills'?

No matter what the next move for you is, consider doing the following:

Quieten the chatter. Believe that you can do this. Be willing to dig a little deeper in order to get to know yourself better, believe in yourself, and confidently step into what’s next.

Whether you are going through a career transition or continuing to develop how you lead yourself and your team, I am offering a Reignite Your Career Workshop next month that will invite you to dive deeper into what’s next. Join me!
